QUARTERLY MEETING OF CSA&CMarch 27, 2004Astoria, New York The Quarterly Meeting of the Chios Societies of the Americas and Canada, Inc. came to order at the Chiotiko Spiti on Saturday, March 27th, 2004 at 8:00 PM. The Supreme President, John M. Kontolios and Supreme Secretary, Dimitrios B. Kontolios officially recorded the attendance of 36 members. The President thanked the members for their attendance and informed them that the Quarterly Meeting of December was held in New Orleans. The successful meeting was coordinated with a dinner party afterwards for four Greek Olympic athletes. He welcomed the attending members of the Korais Society back to the Chios Societies and expressed his gratitude to all the Chian organizations for deciding to all march together in the Greek Independence Day Parade, the following day. He introduced the Supreme Governor of New York, Ms. Angela Vitellas. He also thanked the President of the Chian Federation of NY, Mr. Alex Doulis, for hosting the meeting. Mr. Doulis and Ms. Vitellas acknowledged the Supreme Lodge and officially welcomed the CSA&C to New York, in their opening remarks. The Supreme Secretary, Mr. Dimitrios B. Kontolios read the minutes of the Quarterly Meeting, which took place in New Orleans, LA on December 6, 2003. Mr. Evangelos Kavadas moved to accept; Mr. Antonis Bouboulis seconded, with the correction to include that the extra $2.00 from the raising of the dues from $5.00 to $7.00, goes to help fund the expenses for the office for expatriated Chians; and with the proper Greek correction to the title of Quarterly Meeting. The Supreme Treasurer, Mr. Stefanos Bouboulis, reports that the balances of $31069.70 in the Money Market account and $11712.82 in the Checking account. Mr Stratos Asmanis moved to accept, and Mr. Yiannis Monogioudis seconds the motion, that was passed unanimously. After the acceptance of the treasurer’s report, Mr. Kontolios reminded the members in attendance that without the generosity of the Supreme Lodge and the Board of Directors, the balances of the CSA&C accounts would be much less. Supreme President, Mr. John Kontolios reports that even though fundraising was called for raising 50,000 Eurodollars for the cardiac clinic of the Skylitsion Hospital, no method of collecting funds has begun. Mr. John Klidas proposes to notify all Chian associations and their presidents with a formal letter to them. Chian Federation President, Mr. Alex Doulis motions that the Chian Federation, for the fundraising, open a special bank account. Mr. Stefanos Bouboulis seconds the motion and donates the first $1000 towards the special fund. Mr. George Malafis proposes that the fundraising be promoted on the Chian Federation website and donates $1000 towards the fundraising. Association of Kambiousion Chios of America President and Chairman of the 50th National Chian Convention, Mr. Jim G. Mihalios reports his Society has accepted the task of sponsoring the 50th National Chian Convention in Atlantic City, NJ on Memorial Day Weekend. He pledges that the net profits of the Convention will be donated to the fundraising for the cardiac clinic of the Skylitsion Hospital. He welcomes the CSA&C, Chian Federation, and Korais Society for their presence and participation and calls for all Chians to always join together for such causes as the Hospital in Chios. Supreme Secretary, Dimitrios B. Kontolios and Co-Chairman of the 50th Chian Convention, reports the program and itinerary for the Convention: the Welcome Party is on Friday evening, May 28, 2004; the Delegate Meetings and Grand Banquet will take place on Sat. May 29, 2004. Mr. Kontolios calls on the members to support the Commemorative Journal because most of the net proceeds come from its sponsors and advertisers. Ms. Eleni Vitellas of the Romeko Ensemble reports that they are promoting the sale of Byzantine Hymn CD’s to maintain our religion and encourage the recruitment of new psaltes to the Greek Orthodox Church. Supreme President, Mr. John Kontolios invites Ms. Vitellas to the Convention to further promote the sale of the CD’s. Supreme President, Mr. John Kontolios, reads a letter from the Korais Society, which explains the fundraising undertaken for the family of Mr. Stamatis Vouros, who is terminally ill. Tax-Exempt Donations are accepted into: Panchiaki Korais, S. Vouros, account number 1036769, at the Marathon Bank (Tel: 718-721-0200). Mr. Stefanos Bouboulis moved to adjourn the meeting, and Mr. Antonis Bouboulis seconded the motion, which was carried at 9:30 PM. Page 2 |
