Mr. Kontolios reported that on his inaugural trip to Chios, in September of 2004, his first visit was to the Skylitsion Hospital of Chios to deliver a check for $10300, the net profit of the convention. The administrator of the hospital, Mr. Nick Christou and the cardiologist, Mr. Nick Smyniourdis graciously received the check with many thanks. Mr. Kontolios presented a portfolio of pictures taken of the hospital showing the above average conditions and care of the Cardiology Center. Mr. Kostas Sevastos, reports on the history of the Hospital in Chios to the members in Chicago and discloses that over $800,000 has been spent since 1993 to create an eye clinic, purchase catscan and dialysis equipment, and update the facilities. He discloses and refers to a testimonial received during the convention, from the hospital, stating the numerous patients and treatments administered since 1993. He adds that the hospital is still regarded as the best place for all people of the Aegean region to receive treatment. Mr. Sevastos encourages the members of all the Chios Societies to conclude the fundraising for the Cardiology Center by next summer. Supreme President, Mr. Kontolios reports that donations are tax-exempt with the assistance of the Chian Federation of NY, and as of the meeting date, $17000 total had been collected. Mr. Elias Zografos inquired about the treatment of patients from the opthomologist of the Eye Clinic. Mr. Sevastos responded that the CSA&C can only do its best to provide the necessary equipment and suggest certain things, but has no influence on personnel decisions of the hospital. Mr. Kontolios added that during his visit to the hospital, he observed that only the President of the Northern Aegean Πε. Σ.Υ.Π. Department, Ms. Hatzopoulos has the authority to assign doctors to various positions in hospitals. After concluding the discussion of the hospital, Mr. Zografos motions to the members of the Pelineon Society to donate $2000 towards the Chios Societies – Cardiology Center Fund. Mr. Vavilis seconds the motion upon approval during their next General Assembly. Mr. Kontolios reports that the Chios Omogenon Society sends their regards and that their office is open Mondays and Thursdays from 6-8 PM, and Saturdays from 11AM to 1 PM in Chios. All expatriated Chians may visit the office for a variety of services including passport, visa, retirement, translations, etc. Mr. John M. Kontolios reports that the office relies solely on donations for its existence and its hours are dependent on necessity and budgetary discretion. The CSA&C has donated $980 from its extra dues collection for the office and will shortly send it the Chios Omogenon Society. After discussion for the planning of the 51st National Chian Convention, Mr. Elias Zografos motions to appoint Ms. Maria Diab as a representative from the Pelineon Society of Chicago to put together a proposal to sponsor the convention for Las Vegas in the fall of 2005. Mr. Kostas Sevastos seconds the motion and it passes unanimously. Page 2 |

Supreme President, Dimitrios B. Kontolios reported that the website of the CSA&C is now online and can be accessed for all information, events, minutes, and history of the CSA&C. Mr. Kontolios requests that the member societies update their mailing lists and forward them to the CSA&C to keep everyone better informed. Mr. John M. Kontolios has absorbed the costs of the website as a donation to the CSA&C. Mr. Elias Zografos suggests that membership and interest in Chian societies and associations has declined over the years. After further discussion, it is suggested that the CSA&C should direct its activities to emphasize more Chian-American/Canadian related necessities and activities. Mr. John M. Kontolios motions that the CSA&C circulate a letter to all Chians, which highlights what has been discussed at this meeting, and to call on them for suggestions on how to attract better participation from the youth and to direct the future activities of the CSA&C. Fr. George Kaloudis seconds the motion that was passed unanimously. Mr. Kostas Sevastos moved to adjourn the meeting, at 6:30 PM, and Mr. Elias Zografos seconded the motion, which was carried.
