MISS CHIOS 2008 PAGEANT
January 15, 2008
TO ALL THE
GIRLS OF CHIAN ANCESTRY:
It is my
distinct honor to welcome all the young ladies to the Miss Chios 2008
Pageant. As we all know, the MISS CHIOS Pageant is the most special
event hosted by Panchiaki “Korais” Society for over thirty years now.
For the fourth year in a row, it will be held at the SAND CASTLE of Long
Island, on Saturday, March 1st 2008. On this special night a
lucky, as well as beautiful and intelligent young Chian lady will be selected
to win the title of Miss Chios 2008.
The winner of the pageant will receive a roundtrip ticket to Chios, Greece, compliments of the Korais Society and a one week stay at the fabulous newly renovated CHANDRIS HOTEL over-looking the majestic Chios Harbor and coastline, compliments of the hotel owners. There will also be an honorary dinner at the hotel for Miss Chios during her stay!
The aim of the
pageant is to have as many Chian girls as possible visiting the land of their
ancestors and I believe this is a small step towards that direction.
Unfortunately, because of the society’s philanthropic obligations, it is not
possible for them to offer the same happiness to all contestants. As a small
token of the society’s appreciation however, all participating contestants will
receive a full refund of the dance’s admission by mail.
I guarantee you
all, that the judges will be impartial, non-chians and will be selected on the
night of the pageant amongst the people in the ballroom. They don’t have to be
artists, or in high positions, but rather individuals with common sense, who
probably have children of their own. The criterion for the pageant is not only
based on physical beauty. The judges will decide upon the girls’ education,
charm, goals and personality, which will reflect our rich Greek heritage.
I urge you to
take a few minutes of your time to fill out the application attached to this
letter and mail it to the Panchiaki “Korais” Society, Inc. at: 43-15 202nd
Street, Bayside, NY 11361. You may also bring the application with you the
night of the pageant, but I strongly suggest that you mail it in advance. You
never know, you might be the lucky girl of the night. If you have any
questions, please fell free to call me at (631) 662-1142 or Mrs. Elisavet
Tzoumaka at (917) 209-3330.
Thank you and
good luck to all!
Sincerely,
Soultana
Vavilis
