QUARTERLY MEETING OF CSA&CDecember 6, 2003New Orleans, LA The Quarterly Meeting of the Chios Societies of the Americas and Canada, Inc. came to order at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral on Saturday, December 6th, 2003 at 6:30 PM. The Supreme President, John M. Kontolios and Supreme Secretary, Dimitrios B. Kontolios officially recorded the attendance of 21 members. The President thanked the members for their attendance and introduced the Supreme Lodge to the attending members. He thanked the Supreme Governor of Louisiana, Mr. Markos Kountouroudas and Mr. Michael Christakis, President of the Chios Society of New Orleans, Agia Markella, for hosting the meeting. Mr. Kountouroudas acknowledged the Supreme Lodge and officially welcomed the CSA&C to New Orleans, in his opening remarks. In his opening remarks, Mr. Christakis asks the CSA&C to emphasize our Hellenic culture and language on the youth. The Supreme President, Mr. John Kontolios responds that the CSA&C will spread the message to all its members nationally and especially in New York City area where the Hellenic causes are most active. The Supreme Secretary, Mr. Dimitrios B. Kontolios read the minutes of the Quarterly Meeting, which took place in Philadelphia, PA on May 17th, 2003. Mr. Kostas Sevastos moved to accept; Mr. Antonis Bouboulis seconded, with the correction to include that the minutes be sent 30 days after meetings take place. The minutes of the 4th International Chian Convention, which took place in Chios, on August 1st, 2003, were read and Former President, Mr. Kostas Sevastos motioned to accept the minutes with the correction to include the raising of the dues from $5.00 to $7.00 to help fund the expenses for the office for expatriated Chians. 2ND Supreme Vice-President, Mr. Antonis Bouboulis seconds the motion and reminds the members of how helpful and important the office is to Chians abroad who visit Chios and request assistance. The Supreme Treasurer, Mr. Stefanos Bouboulis, was absent for the meeting. . The Supreme President, Mr. John Kontolios reports that the balances of $31069 in the Money Market account and $7827.45 in the Checking account. After disclosing all the various incomes and expenses of the Convention, Mr. Kontolios reported the receipt of $5000 from the Chian Federation from the proceeds. The Supreme Secretary, Mr. Dimitrios B. Kontolios discloses that he will absorb all the postage and stationery expenses from year 2003 from the CSA&C. Page 1

Mr. Kostas Sevastos, reports on the history of the Hospital in Chios to the members in New Orleans and discloses that over $800,000 has been spent since 1993 to create an eye clinic, purchase catscan and dialysis equipment, and update the facilities. Mr. Michael Christakis gives a testimonial describing how well he was treated for his back injury when he was admitted to the hospital. Mr. Antonis Bouboulis discloses that the hospital has a new administrator, who has been doing a good job, and that the hospital is regarded as the best place for all people of the Aegean region to receive treatment. Mr. Sevastos encourages the members to continue fundraising for the hospital. Supreme President, Mr. Kontolios reports that donations are tax-exempt with the assistance of the Chian Federation. Supreme President, Mr. John Kontolios reports that the 50th National Chian Convention will take place in Atlantic City, NJ on Memorial Day Weekend. The Delegate Meetings and Grand Banquet will take place on Sat. May 29, 2004. Mr. Kontolios reports that the sponsoring society will be organizing the itinerary for the convention. The next Supreme Lodge will also be elected during the Delegate Meeting. Supreme President, Mr. John Kontolios also reports that the Korais Society of NY has decided to renew its membership to the CSA&C. They report that they have trademarked the “Miss Chios” name and that they only have the rights to award the title. Mr. Stan Salagaras, through a letter to the CSA&C, wants to introduce himself as the President of the Chian Federation of Australia. He would like to start a dialogue with the CSA&C and his e-mail address is stansal@ozemail.com.au. The Korais Society of Philadelphia has announced that they are active again after some years of being dormant from lack of interest. Mr. Kontolios acknowledges their re-establishment and vows the support of the CSA&C to other societies that wish to do the same.
Mr. Sevastos and Mr. Christakis encourage the CSA&C to find a better way to promote and communicate fundraisers for various medical hardships that may occur. Mr. Bouboulis suggests that the winter quarterly meeting not be held in December, anymore. Mr. Kontolios responds that the Supreme Lodge will take those matters under advisement. Mr. Sevastos moved to adjourn the meeting, at 8:00 PM, and Capt. Michael Psarelis seconded the motion, which was carried. Page 2 |
